About Clan Appell - Swedes in America
Please sign in to see more.
Welcome!

This is our family website concerning our clan - the Appell`s. We are Swedes, and proud of it! We observed our family`s Sesquicentennial in America in 2002 at our annual reunion that year! There are other `Appell` families - from England, France and Germany - but they are not related to us. If you, our guest, are of one of these lineages, I am sorry, but you will find nothing here to help you in your genealogy search. (But you are welcome to stay and read about our line, if you wish!)

Our family name was first taken by Peter Magnus Andersson, in Sweden, when the movement began to stablise surnames. As the family legend is told, Peter, whose father`s first name was `Anders`, was a drummer in the Swedish regimental army. He picked the name `Appell` from the musical term `appellieri` - a name for the army drum cadence used for `assembly`. ... And what an assembly of people our Appell family has become! We have family members not only in the United States, but in Canada and Mexico as well!

All this from one family who undertook the difficult journey from Sweden, across the Atlantic ocean by sailing ship, to help pioneer and settle upon the Illinois prairie of America in 1852! They had their heartbreaks - and their triumphs!

I have suggested to the Tribal Pages support people that they enable an option for a separate History text section. Until that is accepted and put into use, pieces of the family history must be relegated to lie within the individual members profiles. Check them out - and you can see how our family has grown and interacted with history!

Most of all - Enjoy! I recommend starting your visit by going to the top of the page and clicking on 'Tree' and then 'Family View'. Before leaving, please visit the 'Guestbook' and leave a comment! And please continue to send more information my way to
help share the news of our clan - the Swedish Appell`s in America!

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
